Men the world over go to huge lengths to try and restore their previous hair. Unfortunately, most of these men fail. This is because they’re not making use of reputable hair restoration procedures.
There are a number of different types of hair restoration procedures which can deliver legitimate results. Let’s discuss them, shall we?
Follicular Unit Extraction
Follicular unit extraction, or FUE, is a transplant method which involves taking small hair samples from the sides and back of the head and transplanting them to the balding areas of the head.
This procedure can be completed in a single visit or may occur over several sessions and is generally the most expensive hair restoration procedure to undertake. Once the procedure is finished, you will have a new head of hair that remains for the rest of your life.
FUE is similar to FUT, or follicular unit transplant. The big difference between the two hair transplant procedures, however, is that FUE will not leave any noticeable surgery scars on your head.
Follicular Unit Transplant
Follicular unit transplant, or FUT, works in the same way as FUE; it requires taking hair samples from the sides and back of the head, and transplanting them to the balding areas of the head. However, with FUT, the hair samples are larger, enabling the procedure to be finished more quickly.
Because the hair samples are larger, FUT generally leaves a linear scar on the back of the head. Of course, because this scar will be covered with hair, it will be almost impossible to see unless you shave your head.
Like with FUE, FUT yields permanent results. After you’ve undergone the procedure, you’ll never have to worry about hair loss in that area of the head again.
Stem Cell Hair Therapy
While it is still in its infancy stages, stem cell hair therapy has started to gain some ground in the realm of hair restoration procedures. This procedure involves taking fat from the abdominal area, processing them in a registered lab, and injecting them into the balding areas of the head.
As of today, this procedure has seen mixed results. While some individuals have seen results others continue to struggle with hair loss.
What many successful surgeons do is use stem cell hair therapy in tandem with FUE or FUT. This allows them to use a smaller donor hair area, leaving less scarring on the head.
Stem cell therapy tends to work best for auto-immune disorders such as lichen planus, lichen planopilaris, alopecia, diffused hair loss and others.
Let’s get this out of the way right off the bat: scalp micropigmentation will not produce authentic, growing hair. What it will do, however, is create the illusion of a full head of hair which has a buzz cut.
Micropigmentation involves placing tiny pigments of ink into the hair follicles, filling them entirely and creating the appearance of actual hair. This is a non-surgical procedure which requires very little maintenance over time.
In comparison to hair transplant procedures, scalp micropigmentation is quite affordable. With lower upfront costs than FUE or FUT, it only needs to be carried out once but does require 3 to 4 sessions. Once the procedure has been completed, you’ll never have to worry about restoring your hair ever again. You may require a touch-up in a few years.
