Are you thinking about undergoing a hair restoration treatment of some kind? Looking to restore your hair to its former glory? If so, you’ve got a number of options available, all of which provide something a little different in the way of benefits.
Below, we’ll discuss and compare modern hair restoration procedures in Chicago and Glenview, Illinois. Some of these treatments are designed to preserve existing hair while others are designed to grow hair which has already been lost.
Let’s get into this, shall we?
Also known as a follicular unit transplant (FUT), strip hair transplant is the most commonly used hair transplant procedure in the world today. Out of all hair transplant procedures available, this one yields the greatest hair coverage and density.
It involves taking hair from the sides and back of the head, and transplanting that hair to areas of the head which are balding. For this reason, you need to have some hair on your head in order to undergo the procedure.
This procedure is carried out by a qualified hair transplant surgeon and is a lot like any other surgery you’ll encounter. However, it doesn’t require that you are put under. You can watch TV, sleep, and speak to your surgeon as the procedure is being carried out.
Follicular unit extraction (FUE) is similar to a strip hair transplant in that it takes hair from the sides and back of the head and moves it to the balding areas of the head. A major difference between the two procedures, however, is that strip hair transplant will leave a linear scar on the head while FUE will not leave such a linear scar.
FUE typically takes around 8 hours to be completed; a significantly longer time than strip hair transplant requires. Like with strip hair transplant, you are awake the entire time the procedure is being carried out.
In some cases, this procedure takes more than one session to be completed.
Stem cell hair therapy is an entirely different procedure from FUE and strip hair transplant. Whereas those two procedures involve moving hair from one area to another, stem cell therapy involves harvesting fat cells from your abdominal area to extract stem cells which are then injected into the scalp.
At this point, the procedure is a bit hit-or-miss. Those who have undergone stem cell hair therapy report mixed results. While some have seen true hair restoration after undergoing this therapy, others have seen no results whatsoever. As a procedure, it’s still in its infancy.
If your hair is thinning, but still fairly present, you might be able to benefit from scalp micropigmentation. Substantially cheaper than surgical options, this procedure essentially involves adding medical grade pigmentation to your hair follicles to produce the appearance of hair.
This is not a procedure which requires a hair donor. You won’t have hair removed from other parts of your body. It’s essentially a procedure which lends the appearance of permanent stubble to your head. It is ideal for those who like to cut their hair very thin or shave their heads.
3D Scalp Micropigmentation, offered at MAXiM Hair Restoration, gives you the appearance of real hair.
Like stem cell hair therapy, laser hair therapy is still in its infancy stages. While it has shown results in some patients, other patients haven’t seen any results at all.
This procedure involves encompassing the head with lasers as a means of strengthening the hair follicles. It typically doesn’t result in any new hair growth; it only helps to preserve existing hair.
Laser hair therapy can be performed in the clinic or with a take home laser.
