The George of Old Town

You must come check out The George of Old Town in Alexandria, Virginia. This hotel is located in the renovated home of George Washington, originally built in 1815 at 506 Cameron St.

The owners of this historic location decided to keep the original walls and fireplace in the kitchen, which according to some reviewers is a must-see in Alexandria! Martha Peterson spearheaded the renovation first-hand with her son. She and her husband purchased it thinking they would flip the property. Martha led the design, which combines modernity with a historic feel. A few guests of the hotel have commented on the gorgeous decor inside the property in their reviews.

There’s a common dining room, an outdoor patio, and other lounge areas throughout the home. If you’re traveling with a large group, it’s possible to rent out the entire 6,000-square-foot townhouse! On the other hand, if your travel experience is more private, choose from one of eight suites. The George Washington and the Thomas Jefferson, are two-room suites accommodating up to four people, while the rest are one-room suites. Each one is named after an American former president hailing from Virginia and features a private bathroom, unique layout, and modern furniture.

If your significant other is with you, we recommend the James Monroe suite on the second floor. The suite’s large bathroom has a shower-tub combo and a king-sized bed for you both to relax in. Pricing per night at The George of Old Town begins at $148. Check out the website for more details on how to book your stay.

Kimpton Lorien Hotel & Spa

This hotel champions a stress-free, Saturday state of mind every day. So, it’s no surprise to us that the digital media site U.S. News & World Report rated the Kimpton Lorien Hotel & Spa as the #1 Best Hotel in Alexandria this year. The hotel website invites you to unwind in their urban retreat. With French cuisine and a spa on the premises, guest rooms with beautiful windows that let tons of light in, and a beautiful entrance courtyard, how could you not?

One important detail to remember is that the Brasserie, part of the hotel’s restaurant, BRABO, is open for limited hours during breakfast and dinner on weekdays, with no dinner service on Mondays. Expect to spend between $15 and $25 per person on breakfast, and between $35 and  $70 on dinner, depending on plate size and whether you include a cocktail. They serve brunch and dinner on weekends. Brabo’s casual dining Tasting Room has been closed until further notice due to the pandemic, so you’ll need to plan lunch away from the hotel.

Check the restaurant’s website and ask before booking for any updates regarding the restaurant if the ability to dine while at a hotel is a deal-breaker for you. Also, visit the hotel website to book and find out about other amenities, like their fitness room! Find Kimpton Lorien Hotel & Spa at 1600 King St in Alexandria.
