WHY IS IT CALLED MALE PATTERN BALDNESS?

Most men experience what is commonly referred to as male pattern baldness. This pattern is related to the areas of the scalp that are most sensitive to the testosterone-producing hormone Dihydrotestosterone (DHT), which attacks hair follicles and causes them to fall out in a progressive fashion. Certain areas of the scalp are highly sensitive to DHT, while others are less so. As the production of DHT increases with age, the sensitive areas of the scalp begin to experience hair loss consistent with male pattern baldness. Treatment for hair loss effectively addresses male pattern baldness, and there are many different hair loss treatments available for patients to utilize in order to address this common condition.
