Memorial Park Conservancy
You’ll find a variety of fun things to do at Memorial Park Conservancy. The Memorial Park Pool is a 33-meter pool is open to the public for free swimming from Memorial Day to Labor Day. The pool even has a slide for kids to enjoy. Visit the attached Memorial Park Fitness Center and use the treadmill or stair climbing machine to get an additional workout in. You can store your belongings in the lockers while you swim or work out.
In addition to swimming and the fitness center, there are many more things to do at Memorial Park Conservancy. The park has several trails for biking, hiking, running, or skating. Picnic Loop is a smooth, paved path ideal for biking or in-line skating. There is a crushed granite trail with exercise stations, water fountains, and restrooms along the path for a fun family workout. The park also has 18 tennis courts, four sand volleyball courts, a golf course, croquet courts, and a large playground.
Memorial Park is a great place to spend a whole day outside enjoying the Houston sun, and a place where you won’t run out out of activities! The park has picnic tables scattered throughout, so bring your coolers and picnic lunches to refuel for the afternoon’s fun. You’ll find Memorial Park Conservancy at 6402 Arnot St.
Agnes Moffitt Park
Families can enjoy another free Houston swimming pool at Agnes Moffitt Park. Kids can bring in pool noodles and balls while friendly lifeguards watch over the swimmers and add a sense of security for parents. There’s a kiddie pool available for toddlers to splash away from the larger children.
Swimming isn’t the only thing to do at this park. You’ll be able to play disc golf on the popular Agnes Moffitt Disc Golf Course. The park also has a large playground for the kids, baseball fields, and basketball courts. Agness Moffitt Park is at 10645 Hammerly Blvd. in Houston.
T. C. Jester Park
T. C. Jester Park is another one of Houston’s free aquatic centers and is open from Memorial Day to Labor Day. The pool has a 16-foot deep end with a slide and a shallow end where smaller children can wade. Lifeguards are on duty when the pool is open. There is a splash pad next to the pool for extra water fun or for children who don’t want to go swimming. The pool area has plenty of tables, chairs, and lounge chairs so parents can sit comfortably as they watch their kids. The pool is closed on Mondays.
Once you’re done swimming, there’s still plenty of other fun things to do at T. C. Jester Park. There are playgrounds for the kids with areas suitable for bigger kids and a smaller play area for toddlers. There are hiking and biking paths and a 21-hole disc golf course perfect for a family game. You can bring the family dog to the enclosed dog park for some outdoor playtime with other pups. T. C. Jester Park is located at 4201 T. C. Jester Blvd. in Houston.
When you’re ready for something bigger than a community pool, Schlitterbahn Waterpark is a great choice. It’s a huge water park in Galveston featuring over 30 slides and attractions. Body slides, wave pools, a surfing ride, and multi-passenger tubes are just some of the features of this water park. There’s also a heated pool, a swim-up bar, a lazy river, and a tidal wave river for those who want something more exciting. The waterpark features Treasure Island, a water play area for smaller children. Finally, there’s a zipline for the truly adventurous.
The best thing about this park is that there are attractions for all ages, including daring waterslides, many pools and beaches, and play areas for smaller children. With several dining areas throughout the park, and lockers and cabanas available, this is a terrific way to spend a whole day soaking up the glorious summer sun.
Schlitterbahn Waterpark is located at 2109 Gene Lucas Blvd. in Galveston. Daily tickets start at $39.99 and season passes for unlimited visits are available. The admission price includes parking, inner tubes, and life jackets.
Moody Gardens Water Park has a lot to offer for family fun in the sun. Palm Beach is a white-sand beach in Galveston where you can enjoy a relaxing float along the lazy river, splash around the wave pool, soar down the tower slides into the water, or play on the large splash pad.
After you visit the water park, there’s also a zoo, a museum, and an amusement park to enjoy at Moody Gardens. The Aquarium Pyramid is a unique 1.5-million-gallon aquarium full of all sorts of sea life, including penguins, seals, sharks, and stingrays. The Rainforest Pyramid features a treetop canopy rainforest where you can observe hundreds of plants and many fun-loving animals, including otters, Komodo dragons, monkeys, different species of birds, and many other endangered animals. At the end of a long day in the sun, the family can enjoy a movie in the 3D or 4D theaters.
